It’s been a month now since my car was totaled while sitting at a red light. I bought a new car, updated my car insurance and even got a different tag. On the surface, it looks like I’m processing this change well. But what’s been lurking underneath is a lot different.
You see, after a car accident, the attorneys and insurance claims adjusters fight. A settlement is reached for property damage and medical expenses, but no one prepares you for the things you can’t quantify. What dollar amount do you put on the fear that’s left behind? You know, the fear that feels like a jolt on the inside every time a car gets close to you. The fear that causes you to cringe at a red light. What do you pay someone for constantly looking over their shoulders because they’re afraid they’ll be hit again?
Being a believer in the law of attraction, I had to find a way to shake this fear off. You see, I don’t want to be rear-ended again, but if it’s all I focus on, I’m inviting a crash into my life.
Today, I decided to do something different. I chose to think positive, powerful thoughts like: “I’m supernaturally protected everywhere I go. My Guardian Angel is watching over me. A divine protective shield covers me, so I’m safe and secure.”
Thinking these thoughts eased my mind. I felt like I was driving an impenetrable space ship instead of a car. That protective shield is real, because I choose to believe it is. And that’s the point – choice. Fear was my choice. Now, I’m choosing faith, assurance and trust.
My thoughts about the accident were fueling the feelings of fear. The feelings of fear were causing me to drive less, so I was missing out on things that I enjoy. I’ve never been one to let fear rule me. I’m not about to start now!
I like to take risks. I’ll try something and if it doesn’t work, I shake it off and try again. If it still doesn’t work, I assess it, make changes and try again. The same goes for driving. Sure, I had an accident. Yes, I’ve been scared, but every day I get up and drive again. And because I kept driving, every day I’m a little more comfortable and confident.
I’m choosing to focus on the more positive changes that are happening. I’m becoming a more watchful and courteous driver. I don’t talk on the phone as much, because I know the damage that type of distraction can cause to someone else.
So whatever fear is doing to derail your life, don’t let it! Take your life back! Find that new job. Start that business. Go on that date. When you face fear, it loses its power, allowing you to take yours back.
Still your fears and watch them stop!
